4 ways to boost mental health, for under $5!

Some mornings I feel like my brain is covered in the same frost as my yard.

Holiday time sends a compulsive list maker (like myself!) into complete overdrive. Pretty soon I’ll need to add “keep track of lists” to my to-do list!

Needless to say, a little mental clarity and stress reduction is much-needed this time of year. And while a 10 minute meditation, 20 minute power nap, or 60 minute massage all sound fabulous- they aren’t quite conducive to the office or car.

So, what can you do on the fly to regain a little focus?

Here are 4 surprising ideas. Even better they’re under $5!

  1. Chew Gum:  Yep, chewing gum can help boost your memory.  The act of chewing stimulates the hippocampus (part of the brain responsible for memory!), and by increasing the heart rate, chewing gum also helps deliver fresh blood and oxygen to the brain. But, all gum isn’t created equal. Don’t negate the benefits by choosing gum full of artificial sugars, flavors, and other nasty chemicals. Glee Gum is made from actual chicle and contains NO artificial preservatives, flavors, colors, or sweeteners (e.g. aspartame, saccharin or cyclamate).
  2. Go Dark! You may have heard it before; dark chocolate is full of health benefits. Endorphins found in dark chocolate enhance serotonin production and help reduce depression. The limited caffeine in chocolate also helps provide a mental boost. Our Endangered Species Organic Dark chocolate bars are delicious plain, or even better with cherry, orange, or mint. Or, increase mental health even more with antioxidant packed almonds in (my favorite!)  dark chocolate with cranberry & almond squares.
  3. Ahhh…lavender. Mind still racing when you get into bed? Try our organic lavender soap for clearing the mind, alleviating stress, and reducing insomnia. Our Blissful Botanica organic half bars use pure essential oils (no synthetic fillers) for optimum benefits. Of course, full size bars are also available.
  4. Add some color! Just as the body is made of bones & muscles, energy also plays a major role (how else could we shuffle our feet and shock an unsuspecting sibling?!). According to Reiki philosophies, the body is divided into seven Chakras. Each chakra correlates to physical and psychological manifestations. Having difficulty staying “in the moment”? Often feel like your stomach is full of knots or butterflies? Your third chakra may need a boost. Each chakra also has a color association, 3rd chakra is yellow. Lift your spirit, and refocus your attention adding Enlightened Soul to your nails. Our SpaRitual mini-bottles are $5 color therapy in a bottle!

Daily Green Special: Spend $25 and we’ll add a free Eco-Lips SPF lip balm (unchapped lips = happy lips!) to your order. Just write “$5 health” in the checkout notes and we’ll add the free balm to your order. Offer valid until tomorrow’s post. Happy Wednesday!
