Banned in Europe: not in the US

I find it incredible that ingredients banned in Europe are continually added to our food and skin care. I suppose when the members of the FDA are allowed to own stock in various companies that manufacture artificial ingredients it really shouldn’t be surprising. We, as consumers, have the greatest impact on removing unsafe ingredients from foods: stop purchasing foods with banned additivies! As with any study, you can usually find “evidence” supporting both sides. However, isn’t one study showing detrimental health effects enough to question a chemical’s use in our food?

Which food additives are banned in Europe, but not in the US?

BHA/BHT (Butylated hydroxyanisole/Butylated hydroxytoluene) is commonly found in chewing gum and cereals to extend shelf life. Both are made from petroleum and the World Health Organization has deemed them possibly carcinogenic. Currently, California is the only US state that bans the use of BHA and BHT.

Food Dyes (especially Red 40, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Blue 1, and Blue 2). Instead of using real fruits, vegetables, and spices (ie. beets, carrots, turmeric), laboratories are pumping out artificial colors to make our food “look pretty” regardless of links to cancer, allergic reactions, hyperactivity, and liver toxicity.

Azodicarbonamide. Since patience is on most American’s short list, we want everything done NOW! So, instead of waiting a couple of weeks for flour to lighten naturally, Azodicarbonamide is added to whiten flour immediately. The link to asthma is strong. Interestingly, using this ingredient in Singapore can result in jail time and fines up to $500,000.

To eliminate the guessing game, and for your health, our treats don’t contain any of these European banned ingredients!

glee gumGlee Gum gets its flavor & colors from real fruits & veggies! It’s also one of the only chewing gum that’s actually made from real (sustainably harvested) chicle- not a toxic blend of “gum base.”

lollipopsYummy Earth lollipops may just be the most delicious lollipops on the planet! Pomegranate Pucker & Mango Tango are my two favorites, but Strawberry Smash is a close second. Again, no artificial colors, flavors, or fake sugars in these bad boys. Just 100% fantastic!

Daily Green Special: Stock up on gum & lollipops for the summer, both are 25% off! No coupon necessary, but the offer is only valid until tomorrow’s post. Happy Tuesday.
